Kokum-biy is a representative of the ruling elite of the Kazakh Khanate

This article is devoted to the study of the biography of Kokumbii, a significant figure in the ruling elite of the Kazakh Khanate, who came from the Kyrgyz Karachoro tribe. Historical and genealogical sources concerning the life of Kokumbii, are characterized by fragmentation and contradiction. According to Ch. ValikhanovKokumbii, was the closest associate of the Kazakh Khan Ishim Khan, supporting him during the confrontation with Tursun-Muhammad Khan. Valikhanov points out that after the death of Kokumbii, Ishim Khan, in recognition of his services, erected a mausoleum with a blue dome in Tashkent, known as "Kokemnin kok kumbezi" ("blue kumbez of Kokem"). A number of researchers identify this kumbez with the Kaldyrgach-biy mausoleum, which is part of a single burial complex with the mausoleum of the Mughal Yunus Khan on the territory of the Sheikhantaur cemetery. Currently, the mausoleum contains a sarcophagus with a plaque indicating the burial of Tole bi in it. However, according to the dating of architectural historians, the construction of the mausoleum dates back to the first half of the 15th century, which casts doubt on the reliability of the information about the burial of Kukem-biy and Tole bi in it. Ishim Khan's close ties with the Kyrgyz tribes, expressed in his declaration as the Kyrgyz khan during his departure to Mogolistan, served as the basis for the creation of a separate historical-heroic poem "Er Eshim" by the Kyrgyz. It is significant that this historical-heroic poem, which tells about the life of Er Eshim, does not mention Kukem-biy at all. All these data contradict the version of Ch. Valikhanov about the activities of Kukem-biy during the reign of Ishim Khan. According to another version, Kukem-biy is considered a close associate of the Kazakh Tauke Khan. M. Tynyshpayev points out that the Kyrgyz biy Kokym Karachorin managed a separate "Kyrgyz Alash" consisting of six Kazakh ones. This version, supported by an analysis of a wide range of sources, seems more substantiated from a historical point of view and requires further study. An analysis of sources related to the history of Tashkent also allows us to consider the possibility of identifying Kukem-biy with the ruler of the city in the mid-18th century, Kuchuk-biy or Kusek-biy.
